Tokyo airports
« on: July 20, 2018, 01:09:04 am »
Tokyo has two airports : Haneda and Narita
Haneda (HND) is the oldest and now is ued primary for domestic flights (although there are some intercontinental remaining)
Narita (NRT) serve as the major international airport.

In the game, only Haneda has some charms...

O thanks for the reminder! I will add charms to both. Though one would be stronger than the other

I do think both airports do international flights now. It used to be that Haneda was domestic only but things have changed.

In fact, i am traveling to Tokyo this coming Sep and will be using both Haneda and Narita :D

EXCITING!

Actually, I think Haneda is the prime airport for Tokyo, now more than ever. International flights have been vastly expanded with the new terminal and runway.

I've been reading the wikipedia page of both airport and the situation is more complex than it seems.

Types of trafficLong haul leisure and low costlong haul business and domestic

But yes you're right, Haneda seems more 'powerful', even if the Gov encourages the use of Narita !

Yes I, too, read up, unfortunately only after posting, and indeed, Haneda ist catching up somewhat, but for international flights Narita is king. So in a way we're both right  ;) ;D

By passenger volume, Haneda really is considerably bigger, but it's lower-price lower-margin customers, for whatever that's worth.

NRT is currently a 7 in the game, and it's definitely the largest 7, even by enplanements alone. After considering how heavily it's weighted towards long-range flights, I think there's a strong reason to up it to 8.

Going to make change like this :

Haneda will have business hub and tourist hub charm
Narita will have international hub and tourist hub charm

This will give Narita more international passengers while Haneda more domestic demand
