What causes the game to go down?
« on: March 05, 2019, 11:44:45 am »
Just wondering because I noticed the game seems to go down more frequently than other sites.
Is the server space just not big enough to handle a website of this size?
Are people just pushing updates that break the game?
Just wondering and want to start a discussion while the games down.

My guess is that as the game grows there are more and more calculations to do, the server stays the same and is simply not coping, for example turns keep getting longer and longer. When the number of backlogged calculations gets to a critical mass and the server does not allocate the needed calculational resources the turn starts with only a part of calculations needed and crashes because of conflicts of the database/game mechanics. the only way to do this is to upgrade the server and the creator is trying to collect $150 per months for this on Patreon. Unfortunately the tiers start at $5 per month making the annual donation $60 which is steep in my opinion for most people for a game that is still developing and some people cant even afford that.

I think the only way is to make this a $1 per months game(first months free) or allow a $10 per year contribution and the several hundred people that play this would cover the server upgrade.

I really am against the idea of making it paid. I think that will massively reduce users. I, however, would be happy if Patson implemented ads into the site. It perhaps wouldn't be much but every little help. I also wonder if they could ads small non-game changing premium features. I want 0, imbalance with people who pay/those that don't. I'm sure most would agree. Perhaps charge small amount's for a one-time payment to do things like unlock a dark mode, or change the name of your Airline. Just other methods to monetize the site. I wonder what his thoughts would be on that?

Either way, I think to make the game cost would severely damage the community.

I'm a patron of the game, but don't receive any in-game advantage. So I think it's okay to make it paid as long as everyone does it.
