Negative slots at HQ and bases
« on: February 11, 2019, 09:20:56 pm »
Hi guys,

Anyone had this issue before? Slots in HQ and bases are negative for a while.

My HQ is PEK, and I'm the second largest airlines there. However, the slots available have been -15 for a while. Since I upgraded it to level 7, service quality didn't drop, and all my routes are green.

Same happened to NRT base, -14 slots.

This is kinda weird, and I don't like it at all.

Negative slots are new to you? I see them often (though mostly just -2 or -3, not -15). One factor I think could be lower loyalty, maybe due to an ageing fleet.

Another factor I am thinking about - and I would like to see patson's opinion on this - could be the max. number of slots at an airport. As more routes are added to a certain popular airport I would guess that at a certain point the max. number of slots is reached. If that happens I would guess that the number of slots you get with a certain base scale at that airport is sinking, even if all other factors are stable.

Thanks for your reply!

I set the plane auto renewal rate to be 70%, so I doubt it's the aging fleet.

As for the second point, I kind of agree. Let's see if patson has anything to say.

Think i have removed the total # of slots so it shouldn't affect calculation

I agree that the limiting factor for slots in HQ should eventually be the overall flight quality for ALL routes flying in and out of that airport.

Take note that overall flight quality = service quality (company wide) + airplane condition + per route service level (stars)

So there could be several things that could lower the overall quality:

1. Unchanged service investment but increased flight capacity - if you are expanding ur spending would need to keep up with it otherwise service quality to fall gradually
2. Airplane aging - from 100 to 70% could still result quite a bit of loss (maybe -10?) That can still mean a huge diff if ur base is large say u have 500 slots, 10% quality drop = -50 slots
3. Maybe some new routes are added to the city with lower server level (stars?)

So yeah...if u have a high # of slots even a subtle change (several %) of overall flight service will trigger noticeable drops in slots

HTH :)

Thanks for the detailed reply, Patson!

I keep my service quality around 42 for a long time, and I didn't have such problem when the scale was 3,4.

I'll monitor the slots change and raise SQ to see whether that helps.

Thanks again!

Hm, what do you mean by that? Does that mean that the total number of slots at an airport (e.g. 4000 at YVR, 8000 at JFK, etc...) have no meaning for the simulation? So there could e.g. be more than 8000 weekly flights at JFK?

Yeah, they have no meaning. They did once but a few airports ran out of slots so it was removed.
