I think a penalty system should be applied to the slot system as well, like the route penalty.

In the real world, the workload is from the number of slots, not the number of routes. (I know it is also needed to limit the number of route.)
So, the penalty is given when an airport HQ/base has more than 1) allowed routes and 2) slots.

Well - maybe you can modell this like the rl? A Slotlimit is very important for balancing.

- everyone who like can buy availiable slots. Could be automatic within creating a route
- If an airline going bancrott - there will be a lottery. Airlines can apply and they get the slots after certain criteria (new routes which current no other supply) and so on.
- Unused slots  (<80% usage) will release after a certain time to the public pool

Btw. Slottradingsystems will be great - but are very susceptible for cheating.

Slots will still kinda exist in a theory level for V2 but players might not interact with it directly anymore

For example it will get increasingly difficult to negotiate if the airport is already very busy.

And perhaps (just a suggestion, no promise), certain projects applied to the airport can make it a bit easier again (cause of expansion etc)

The slot system makes sense irl, an airport only has so many possible takeoffs and landings. It does encourage players to spread out their routes and networks a little bit, but it is currently hard to visualize unmet demand. Airports do expand if the airport has enough demand and is making enough money. 30 year ago my local airport was only international because Canada isn't that far from my hometown in Portland. Now we have non stop flights to Europe and Asia thanks to a couple of expansion projects.

For now in V2, i am thinking to completely remove the slots. It will simply be whether the airport is willing to let u have capacity of X amount flying to airport Z.

Although in more crowded airport i do plan to make negotiation a bit harder so it still kinda have a slot concept just not the way it works right now :)

So at the moment you just get slots by popularity, use, money, rep etc. I would change the system so that you get slots on the base of bidding on them for a route you want to open up. This shall be decided by the amount of money bid with a percentage of luck. It should be dependent on the number of slots free in the airport, also the old factors and the load factor of the other routes from that airport/country. It shall also be negotiated how much the slots cost the airline per month in terms of a contract that can be renegotiated from time to time, so the airport gets more power.
