Another one, in Greenland Nuuk is marked as the gateway airport. And while Nuuk is the capital and largest city, Kangerlussuaq is the largest airport and true gateway to Greenland. Just about all traffic to/from Greenland is funneled through Kangerlussuaq.

To the credit of MIA, it's top-3 for international traffic in the US.

Thanks! for most countries i just used the script to get the airport with most pop, otherwise it would take me a long time to patch them one by one.

I will fix those countries later on with some manual patching.

Keep in mind that gateway airports do not mean they are the only airports. They are merely just airports that are the easiest to start ur IC routes to.

As for the US ones, I picked them geographically and almost based on international flight data https://www.bts.gov/content/table-8-us-airports-ranked-2017-international-scheduled-enplanements-us-carriers-and-foreign

Atlanta might be busy but it's mostly a domestic hub, it's #7 on the list

I noticed that in a number of countries the wrong airports have been marked as gateway airports. Let's go over them.

In Lithuania, Kaunas is marked as the gateway airport. This is incorrect as Kaunas is just a regional airport with mostly low-cost airlines flying there. Vilnius is the capital and the largest airport in the country, it should be the gateway.

In Senegal, Léopold Sédar Senghor airport is marked as the gateway airport. This is the old airport in Dakar which is about to be closed. It is being replaced by the new Blaise Diagne airport. All passenger flights have already moved there, only some cargo flights still use the old airport. Eventually it will be closed entirely. Blaise Diagne should be the gateway airport in Senegal.

In Iran, Mehrabad airport is marked as the gateway. And while it is the busiest airport in the country, Mehrabad is the domestic airport for Tehran. Imam Khomeini is the international airport and the true gateway to Iran.

In Kazakhstan, Almaty is marked as the gateway airport. Indeed it is the busiest airport in the country, but not by a large margin. Nur-Sultan (in the game still known by it's old name Astana) is the capital and gets nearly as much traffic as Almaty. Maybe Kazakhstan can get two gateway airports, it is a big country after all.

And last but not least, the USA. Maybe it's best to make a list of the 15 busiest airports in the country and which ones of them have been marked as gateways.

1. Atlanta (ATL) is not a gateway airport
2. Los Angeles (LAX) is a gateway airport
3. Chicago (ORD) is not a gateway airport
4. Dallas (DFW) is not a gateway airport
5. Denver (DEN) is not a gateway airport
6. New York (JFK) is a gateway airport
7. San Francisco (SFO) is a gateway airport
8. Seattle (SEA) is not a gateway airport
9. Las Vegas (LAS) is not a gateway airport
10. Orlando (MCO) is not a gateway airport
11. Newark (EWR) is not a gateway airport
12. Charlotte (CLT) is not a gateway airport
13. Phoenix (PHX) is not a gateway airport
14. Houston (HOU) is not a gateway airport
15. Miami (MIA) is a gateway airport

How can it be that the busiest airport in the world (Atlanta) is not a gateway airport? And the 15th busiest airport in the country (Miami) is a gateway? This needs some serious reconsideration. Atlanta and Chicago need to be gateway airports for sure, maybe at the cost of Miami.
