Version 2 Updates / Re: Friday update on progress
« on: December 05, 2020, 07:06:00 am »
In real life, runway requirement also depends on the aircraft weight. A large part of that weight is fuel. Therefor maybe you can make it so that if an aircraft flies further, it also needs more runway length than if it flies less far.

Another factor that affects the aircraft weight and thus required runway length is the load factor. The more passengers it has on board, the more runway length it needs. This also affects the range, light loaded aircraft can fly further than aircraft that are packed to the brim. That's because a heavier aircraft has a higher fuel burn.

Maybe for each aircraft you can have different configurations with the number of Y, J, and F seats. Each configuration can have different values for runway length and range. This does mean less flexibility, airlines don't get to make their own configurations like in the current game. They have to pick one of the pre-existing ones. But isn't that the case in real life as well? Maybe you can give each configuration a value for comfort level, a configuration with a higher seat pitch can have a higher comfort level than one with a lower seat pitch.

Configurations can be picked up from SeatGuru. For each type of seats it shows the number of them and the seat pitch.

Under Development / Wish List / Suggestions / Re: Olympics suggestion
« on: November 15, 2020, 03:32:46 pm »
Perhaps it can come with a set of rules. Let's say:

- Any city that has hosted the Olympics once cannot host it again, it's banned for life.
- Any city that ends up in the pool cannot be nominated again for the next round, but can be nominated for rounds after that.
- Airlines are not allowed to nominate the same city twice in a row, regardless if they end up in the poll or not. For each round they must nominate a different city than the previous round.
- Airlines are not allowed to nominate any city in which they have a base.

Or if you like the current randomized system better, why not make a hybrid? Let's say 4 out of the 6 poll options are from nominations and the other 2 are randomly picked by the system.

As it is now, the system picks 6 random airports that end up in the poll for the Olympics. I think this can be done better.

How about adding an extra step in front of it, where all airlines can send in their nominations. Any city anywhere in the world can get nominated. Then instead of 6 random cities, you get the 6 most nominated cities in the poll.

Bug Reports / All slots taken away after rebuild airline
« on: November 15, 2020, 04:52:35 am »
I've rebuilt my airline and reestablished a base in an airport where I had a base before. From the base that I had there before, I had a huge number of slots at this airport. Of course after the rebuild I've restarted my most important routes, but there were still a lot left that I couldn't restart immediately. They had to wait.

Now that I wanted to continue rebuilding my airline and setting up routes that I hadn't set up earlier, I found that at the airport where I previously had hundreds of available slots, that number has suddenly dropped to zero. It seems like I've fallen out of grace because I've rebuilt my airline.

Is the game taking away slots too easily? It seems like it. Slots are too hard to gain and too easy to lose. How can I re-earn those slots if I'm not allowed to expand?

Bug Reports / Unable to delete and reestablish a base
« on: November 14, 2020, 08:32:13 am »
I have deleted one of my bases, only to reestablish it immediately after. However I can't, the Build Base button is disabled. When I hover it, it says an alliance member already has a base there. However that alliance member is me. It still sees the base that I just deleted.

It'll probably be fine in the next cycle, but it's not the way it should be. Deleted bases should not be counted anymore from the moment they are deleted.

Under Development / Wish List / Suggestions / Re: Distance in Search mode
« on: November 10, 2020, 11:57:28 am »
I agree with this suggestion.

Currently when I'm investigating a route, I look it up on GCmap to see it's distance. This has the disadvantage that GCmap shows the distance in miles while the game uses kilometers, so I have to convert miles into kilometers first. Then I sort the planes by range and draw a line at the route distance so I can pick the best plane below the line.

This has already been discussed over and over again. Multiple accounts on the same person are allowed, there's nothing unfair about it. Everyone is allowed to make as many airlines as they want, although it can be a lot of work to keep up with.

Seems to work fine in Microsoft Edge, but doesn't work in Firefox.

« on: October 29, 2020, 10:17:54 am »
Sorry to say, but to me it's worthless.

As a matter of fact, I hardly ever look at the passenger map. It's not an essential part of the game, in fact it's hardly more than eye-candy. If you call this a big feature, I'm sorry to say but I think you got a problem setting your priorities right. To me, this has zero priority. Absolutely no need to do it.

Meanwhile the development of V2 is more important. Think of all the time you spent developing this useless feature, and how you could have spent that time developing V2.

True, and Tegel will be closed shortly.

However from what I understood, it's not easy implementing such changes in the game. The game world is static where the real world is dynamic. Airports opening, closing and changing is part of that dynamic world that we don't have in the game.

Hopefully in V2 the game will allow for these kind of changes, the current game version doesn't.

Version 2 Updates / Re: Eliminate tiny airports
« on: October 14, 2020, 11:35:10 am »
I agree, there are way too many tiny airports. Meanwhile some bigger airports are missing. If you look at Cape Verde for example, it's completely inverted of how it should be. The two largest airports have been deleted and all the small ones remain.

There are a whole lot of flaws in the airport database, literally hundreds of airports have the wrong scale. For the current version it doesn't matter anymore, but for V2 a complete database overhaul should be required. What's more, it would be great if V2 would facilitate database chances better than V1 so the database can be updated easier and more frequently without it impacting the whole game like it does in V1. Maybe something that if an airport is deleted from the database, the routes to this airport are automatically deleted or shifted to another airport. After all in real life airports close their doors as well while others open, this should be possible in the game as well.

Version 2 Updates / Some suggestions for V2
« on: October 08, 2020, 12:02:36 pm »
I have some suggestions for V2.

Improved second hand aircraft market

Right now if you want to sell an aircraft you just click "sell" and you got the money immediately. It's a fixed amount, no negotiation possible. Same if you want to buy a second-hand aircraft. I thought this could be done better by making it a real market. In other words, if you got an aircraft you want to sell you can put it on a list against a certain proposed price. Other airlines can then view the aircraft as available for sale. They can either accept the proposed price, or they can make a bid. If they accept the proposed price, they get the aircraft immediately. If they make a bid, the selling airline can either accept or deny that bid. If the selling airline accepts, the plane is sold for the bid price. It's a way for buying airlines to get the plane cheaper, but with less certainty and they have to wait until the selling airline makes a decision. Meanwhile, accepting a bid is a way for the selling airline to sell the plane faster but for less money.

Sell airline

Just like selling a second-hand aircraft, you should also be able to sell an entire airline. Right now if you want to start over you just click "declare bankruptcy" or "rebuild airline". Your entire airline is gone and you get the money, all in an instant. Convenient, but less realistic. So my proposal is that you can offer your airline for sale in the same way as a second-hand aircraft. If another airline buys it, the entire fleet and route network is merged into the buying airline. The selling airline gets whatever amount of money was agreed on in the negotiation process. Overlapping hubs are merged, the home base of the selling airline is converted into a hub.

Split out service level

Right now the service level is just a number, it can't be specified any further. It's meaningless. However how much fun would it be if you can split it out, decide on what exactly you offer on your flights and for which price. You can decide on luggage allowance for example, do you offer free checked luggage or do you charge for it? And how much? As for the virtual passengers, some will travel with checked luggage and some without. This influences their choice of airline. Also, do you provide free food and drinks on board or do you have a buy-on-board program? What exactly do you provide your passengers with? What prices do you charge? Again, different virtual passengers might have different preferences.

I think these would make nice additions to the game.

General Discussion / Re: Hopefully resume game development in November
« on: October 08, 2020, 11:34:45 am »
I agree focusing on V2 is the best. The current game has it's flaws, but they're not so urgent they need to be resolved immediately. It's playable, that's what it's about.

When V2 is ready it should be a blast. I got a couple of ideas for that already, but I will post them in the V2 forum.

Airport and City Suggestions / Airport scales
« on: October 04, 2020, 05:28:06 am »
There are a lot of airports in the game that seem to have the wrong scale, it's a real nuisance. The game doesn't resemble reality in any way.

I've made an Excel sheet with a good number of airports, how many passengers they process, what their scale should be based on their amount of passengers (proposed scale), what their scale in the game is and how much that offsets them from their proposed scale.

Keep in mind that an offset doesn't always have to be incorrect, sometimes there can be reasons for it. For example large aircraft landing at airports that otherwise see very few passengers. But there are also offsets that just can't be declared in any way. This excel sheet doesn't take that into consideration. But even when you do, there are still hundreds of airports left with an incorrect scale. No matter which criteria I use, I just can't seem to justify the scale which those airports have.

There are also lots of airports which are missing in the game, as well as there are airports in the game that are closed in real life or at least closed for airline traffic. I've included them as well.

I suggest you take a look at it. Keep in mind that this sheet is by no means complete and, despite putting a lot of effort in it, it might still contain errors. But I think it will expose a lot of wrong scale airports and other database failures that should be looked into.

Under Development / Wish List / Suggestions / Re: 788 capacity suggestion
« on: September 16, 2020, 02:43:19 pm »
For V2 a complete database overhaul will be needed. The current database is full of errors, not only on aircraft (capacity, fuel burn, etc) but also the airports. Lots of airports are missing or the wrong scale, and airports that have been closed in real life (or downgraded to general aviation only) are still present in the game.
