At the very least, I'm gonna PR a rate throttler for chat....

Which I've completed, up to Patson to put it in now.

Thats an odd one, but it got to the part where it was creating AI airlines, you can go ahead and run the main simulator now and the front end server and be fine.

Port 3306 is correct .. the issue may be setting up the user and the database in mysql.

In order for the game to connect to the database:
1. A user in mysql must be created with the login/pass which I believe defaults to (sa/admin)
2. A database must be created called "airline" (default collation utf8_general_ci works)
3. The user must be granted access to the created database

After all that fun, the game should be able to connect. Isn't development fun!

BTW I use a tool called heidisql to administer and perform these tasks. If you need detailed instructions lemme know and I'll write some up.

Scala being Scala .. it wants JDK 8 to run right ...

https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

That should fix most of the errors

Also should point out that also due to java connector issues, you need mysql 5.7 to run it on windows, mysql 8 has problems connecting.

So as a minor developer that pitches in once in a great while, I've been musing upon various possibilities for the game. In fact I've tried a few with some minor success, but I think I've hit upon something fun and want to hear YOUR opinion and ideas.

First of all, the main server is the main server. It's the master game .. it's the RISK of airline management (If you've ever played RISK .. you'll get it)! Give Patson all your love and hard earned dollars for the juggernaut he's created.

What I'm proposing and will be implementing on my development server (which as of now I'll open to the general public .. details below) is a slightly different model based on the system Patson has given us. Here is what I'm going to be working on:

  • Each game will only last perhaps 2 to 4 weeks
  • World Reset after each game concludes
  • Each game has a unique goal, for instance .. Rule Country X .. or provide the most service to a world cup location
  • Each game will have limitations .. like you can only have bases at Class 5 or smaller airports .. or no one can be based in the country to win
  • There will only be 2 "ticks" a day .. instead of continuous ticks, the system will process 26 or 52 weeks at a time
  • There will be a 2 or 3 day dead period at the start of the each game to give players an equal footing before begins
  • and more as I develop it

I know it's bad form to talk about flight club, in fact it's really rule number 1, but I never was good at following the rules.

Right now my development server is open at https://flight-club.md-88.net .. as an open world for me to test things as I get them worked out. Mind you this is a development server at this stage and prone to random wipes, changes, or ruthless dictatorship under the guise of My Holy Cowness. You are free to come fool around on it if you wish. I look forward to hearing ideas for possible games if you have any. Just remember, AC is still the main server and to give Patson his props for developing a wonderful system. I want this to be a little mini-game off to the side.

Patson mentioned it once, I don't even know if he was serious or not, it was just when I started playing so I didn't pay it much attention.
I guess it would be just some kind of world expansion, dunno. I'm all for it tho ahahaha
He's got a branch for it, so it's been started ...

Also come join us on chat :)

I'm imagining the engines sounding like a cow moo'ing, getting more intense with higher throttle.

Something like ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKOczowbUSg?

Bug Reports / Re: Bug? No new slots
« on: November 14, 2018, 08:22:40 am »
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not,

I have upgraded one of my bases but didn't receive any more slots. Was I meant to? if not then why not?

IIRC slots are based on several factors, if the base is still fairly new even upgrading the base a level may not immediately award you extra slots. Wait a little while and as the awareness of your airline increases you'll see slots opening up.

General Discussion / Re: Airport Lounge Open For Business!
« on: November 12, 2018, 11:16:02 am »
I'm happy to see the lounges are back up and running! My lounges are all running deficits though. Is this the same for anyone else? How can we increase income for the lounges? I've increased the number of business and first class passengers to/from the airports with lounges, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the profit of the lounge. Also, the lounges are listed as expenses on each route. Why is that?

Thank you for all the work you're putting into this game!  ;D

Running deficit? Welcome to running a real airline!  8)

Here is how it works ...

1. B/F passengers on a flight with a lounge will have $100 each removed from the flight revenue for their lounge access, this should be able to be recouped as lounge adjacent routes can have a small increase in B/F prices.

2. All of this then shows up as Lounge Income in the office screen

3. All B/F lounge visitors also incur a $50 fee to the lounge owner for supplies

4. Plus the lounge upkeep costs

All this together in the best of situations should come out close to even, kinda like the real world. But to fully answer your question .. yes
I'm running close to a 400k a week loss on mine from the balance sheet .. but several routes I was able to increase my pricing slightly and make it close to a net 0
