Fuel Consumption Rework
« on: December 29, 2019, 04:57:39 pm »
Suggestion for 2.0 mostly as to not break the current meta, but fuel consumption for airplanes seem a little out of wack right now, as seen in this spreadsheet another user put together. Currently It makes the A318 overpowered, and the 787 and A320neo, which were developed solely for fuel saving purposes, perform worse than their several-decade old counterparts. Wikipedia has a nice article full of examples of fuel usage per km and per seat which would work as a nice base: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_economy_in_aircraft#Example_values

Thanks for the suggestion! Aquantis!

The fuel consumption as of V1 is simply a parameter to balance the game, it really does not really reflect any real fuel usage

The problem tho by following realistic data is that we will need something else to balance the airplane performances, while the current operation cost model is pretty straight forward, the easiest way is to manipulate the so called fuel consumption to achieve that.

Simply put, fuel consumption as of V1 is simply a "cost to operate".

As for V2, we will need some substantial change to the "cost to operate" model if we want realistic fuel consumption. Honestly I have not put too much thoughts into that yet :)

So it seems fuel does not really affect the route, always been bothered by it and no idea which plane to use for regional/domestic routes =( finding it difficult to scale

Fuel should have impact on the route as it's one of the main expenditure? Can you elaborate a bit more on how it does not affect the route? :)

what i mean was taking reference from your previous reply. it is used as "operation" cost rather than just actual fuel usage.

Isn't Depreciation already "cost to operate"? Cause in reality, depreciation is just accountant's turnover on profit to taxes.
You really does not pay depreciation IRL...

Depreciation is included because it affects your income, but deprivation does affect your cash flow, which can wildly differ from your income.

Depreciation is loss in book value.
You will not lost directly your net cash income, because your airplane is loosing on it's book value. You will deprive your virtual amount of money in your books, and add then this virtual value to your expenses, which is artificially expense increase to pay lesser taxes. Nowhere is real money.
Book value =/= Cash income

And currently this heavily impacts the cash income.

It's not calculated in the operational cash flow though, that's why the cash flow graph is usually more than your income graph. For example, last week my airline made $7 mil in profit, that's including depreciation, however, my actually cash flow into my balance was $14 mil, because depreciation isn't calculated into your balance.

Then go put some thoughts into it. Right now the fuel consumption is way wrong and it's a pain in the ass.

And yes, it seems like users do want realistic fuel consumption. At least I do.
