v1.2 planning!
« on: January 18, 2020, 11:18:40 am »
Hi all!

I have been working hard on making the game mobile friendly recently and that will still be an ongoing thing for awhile.

However, I would also like to start the planning for v1.2 as desktop users deserve to get updates too!

Similar to v1.1, v1.2 will contain major gameplay changes but will NOT trigger a game reset. It will likely include goals that are originally slated for v2.0 but can be implemented (and nice to have) without a world wipe

Take note that all these items are under consideration and are subjected to changes

More airplane models/airplane series
I have been reluctant to add more airplane models into the current game world as:
1. more airplane model probably does not add any value in terms of gameplay atm
2. The airplane model listing is not optimized for more models - the list will get too long.

Therefore we will address these 2 issues and so we can add more airplane models and make it more fun to manage and strategize! :)

1. Airplanes will now be grouped under "series". Variations of a model will be grouped under the same series - for example :
  -B777 series : 777-200, 777-200ER, 777-200LR, 777-300, 777-300ER
2. Airplane model limit will be replaced by airplane series limit. Therefore even if you own 5 different models within the series, it's still count as 1
3. Airplane maintenance will now start with a BASE cost (likely to be higher than the current cost, such that this change is MEANINGFUL), and a discount will be applied if:
  a. The airline uses LESS airplane series than the allowed limit. The bigger the difference, the greater the discount (this encourages airline to specialize and pick their favorite)
  b. The airplane's home base is on the same CONTINENT as the manufacturer
4. Rework the existing UI flow to accommodate
  a. The airplane screen will have 2 lists,
    i. the first will be all the models that your airline own
ii. the 2nd will be the all the models grouped by the series, by default all collapsed to only show the series.  Clicking on the series will expand all the variations within that series. Click on the sort column will sort items within the series. There will be an icon to disable/enable grouping (expand everything) and then u can sort all airplanes like you can currently
  b. The plan route flow, the airplane model selection, it will show the series, after it's selected, it will show the variations within that series

Country Bloc
Currently the country relationship matrix is kinda a empty (most of them are 0), while we will still keep the current values, we can fill up the matrix better by the introduction of country bloc

All the existing country can at MOST be in one bloc (or not in one at all), bloc and bloc will have mutual relationship. If the existing mutual relationship is 0 (undefined), then the relationship will be replaced with bloc.

The blocs will be (tentatively):
USMCA
EU (with UK still part of it)
Eastern bloc
ASEAN
Mercosur
OPEC
AFTZ
Oceanic countries

Some major country/region that is not in any bloc will get a country <-> bloc relationship such as Japan, South Korea etc

Dynamic events/airport charm
The goal is to NOT affect too much of the existing gameplay, yet give active players some minor edge

Dynamic events will basically apply airport charms to certain airport/country for X amount of time:
1. Olympics - The airport will receive +50 tourist charm for a year. This will only apply to size 4+ airports
2. World Expo - The airport will receive +30 business and +20 tourist charm for a year. This will only apply to size 4+ airport
3. Tourism bloom - The whole country's size 4+ airport get +X tourist charm for a year. The amount is based on the matching airports. The less the qualifying airports, the bigger the value (probably 50 divided by matching airports - min as 1)
4. Business bloom - The whole country's size 4+ airport get +X business charm for a year. The amount is based on the matching airports. The less the qualifying airports, the bigger the value (probably 50 divided by matching airports - min as 1)

The log system will be improved to show the world events

KK...this is just a quick draft. Thoughts, comments, concerns?  :D

If the discounts are high I really dont like this system, because I would have to change so many routes, even changing the dircetions of the route just to get the maintenance discount on that route. Are there even asian planes?

Also there has to be the option to sell/buy larger amounts of planes at once for this :P

> For b, what is the rationale behind this? If we take just the big players, Airbus and Boeing, they have maintenance teams all around the globe. What makes maintaining an Airbus France cheaper in France than in Algeria?

This is not meant to be realistic. It's just to encourage airlines to have different strategies by maintaining different fleets based on its focus. So there's no one-size fit all, nor a "best" airplane model for all airports. It is to make things more situational and strategic

As for country bloc, it's just a very rough list and is subjected to changes. I will get a more finalized list once i do start working on it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Minor thing but a graph tracking weekly reputation, same as the income and cash flow ones would be a nice addition.

It will not be a huge discount

Yes! Me too would like to see more statistics. I would also like to have a graph similar to income/cashflow also for weekly PAX, weekly PAX miles and total cash.

Another statistics feature I would value: On the page of every plane type I would like to see the 3 (or so) biggest operators of that type.

Love the airplane series! Would you provide a complete list of all airplanes? Would love to see that before v1.2 release.

Regarding aircraft maintenance cost, I think irl if you set up the facility, the average maintenance cost would go down if you have more aircrafts. I feel it can be part of base maintenance, and don't see why you want to separate it out.

Also for special events, can Olympics happen at multiple airports at the same time?

Good work, thanks for everything!

Thanks zuoyi.!!

I don't have the airplane list yet. I need alot of help here I would prefer airplanes with graphics from norebb. It's completely open now

The maintenance cost I'm still pondering about the formula. I'm pretty sure I want to impose less cost of you stay with less series. But the rest is still up for debate

Olympic will only happen at one airport for the ease of implementation.. I don't know yet

I have some ideas about some aircraft that can fill in some niche role as can be seen in my GitHub pull request. Also, I have some suggestion about changing the aircraft sizing system as the current one classified it by passenger capacity. This will make some aircraft such as the A350-900ULR to be sorted into a medium size aircraft which is unrealistic. A more realistic classification method could be through wingspan. I am working on a prototype but couldn't quite decide how to put the aircraft in the correct wingspan category.

That sounds good!

Yes, using capacity to determine size is not really the best - It makes sense for turnaround time, but not for airport size

It would be cool if we can make the data a bit more realistic, the issue for me tho, is that i dun have enough time and I am by no means an expert in this field when there are so many aviation enthusiast in this game! :)

So any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have decided on using the ICAO system to classify the aircraft. Check out this commit:https://github.com/DuploMinh/airline/commit/973bc981f5912ee3231bf422ad7d73473b5b5d51

Another thought - definitely a nice to have not essential - would be a stat on the inventory screen that shows how much revenue each individual plane has earned. I'm buying dreamliners but not sure if their earnings will offset their costs during their lifetime...

Hello Patson!  :)

Would you consider my proposal about airplane maintenance?
What I realy like about this game is it's pretty realistic in many aspects.
And I'm afraid that adding a discount on airplane maintenance based on a manufacturer/home base in not very realistic.

How about adding a possibility to "build" a maintenance hangar - exactly the same way as we can build a lounge? It could be pretty cheap or free, it's up to you. For each airline base there could be max two hangars. And to make thinks more challenging, there could not be hangars for Airbus and Boeing at the same time. So players could create cheaper maintenance for example Airbus+Bombardier or Boeing+Embraer etc. Some of the new plane types (I don't know which are going to be added) could be together in other groups.

Other way could be more simple, not depending on each hub. In Office tab there could be a choice to choose two manufacturers for which you want to have a discount globaly.

Anyway I mean it would be nice if players could have a possibility to actively influence their maintenance discount wherever a hub is.
