Change to the base system
« on: January 15, 2021, 11:51:27 am »
The current system allows for organic growth where your number of bases is connected to your reputation. I like this system, however, I feel the current implementation forces too much the Hub and Spoke model of aviation and limits the point to point model until you are already very big and have access to a large number of bases.

A possible way to allow for player choice in which path they want to follow, even early on, could be instead of limiting the number of bases acording to reputation is limiting the sum of your bases level to a certain ammount. Let me clarify with an example.

Assuming at first you can only have 2 bases. Currently that would mean you would be able to build 2 bases to as high a level as you wish. What if instead there was a limit of 5 to the sum of your bases level?
  • That meant you could have 5 level 1 bases and adopt a low cost point to point on lower demand airports
  • You could have 1 base at level 5 to go for a big airport market share, allowing you more slots in that airport and allowing you to pursue high demand routes
  • Something in between. 1 level 1 base + 1 level 4 base. 2 level 2 bases + 1 level 1 base. etc

Of course the numbers would have to be adjusted and well thought of, but what is your thoughts on the concept? Would it be possible to implement with the current framework without too much trouble?

I like this idea. Maybe a there's a limit to number of non hub/base departing/arriving flights based on reputation? I think you still need to have a hub/base to accurately base the aircraft to ensure that maintenance is done.

My thought would be this:
1. Based on reputation, you're granted a set number of slots which do not need to originate from a hub/base.(point-to-point)
2. The plane still has to be based out of a primary hub/base.
3. You a you can do a point-to-point from an airport served by a direct route from your base. Almost like a stopover flight.

For example:
My aircraft is based in Atlanta. I have a flight which goes from ATL > AUS (hub-and-spoke). I now have the ability to add a point-to-point from AUS > DEN. The flight would then work in reverse DEN > AUS > ATL.

Sorry I dun check the forums too often, got my head buried too deep into coding :P

Thanks for the suggestion! Indeed we want to encourage different play style and make them all viable

Our current delegate system is actually similar to what you are suggesting? :) Since upgrading bases require delegates therefore, the total level is actually bound my delegates which is determined by reputation/level

As for higher level bases, we will be implementing some changes to make them more effective.

We will lower the soft cap of routes in general, but for high level hubs, that soft cap will be a little bit higher progressively :)

I think your proposal (p2p)  is more realistic than our current model. It will be very hard to implement unfortunately. We might be able to introduce different types of hubs like ones that are "stop-over" only etc, will still be a bit complicated but i will keep that in mind

Thank you! :)
